END OF OCTOBER DEVOTION
Dear Devotee, this year’s October Marian devotion ends today, in many places, especially in various Parishes and Marjan shrines with the crowning of our Blessed Virgin Mary.
The month has really been so eventful. Amidst the #EndSARS protests and all that followed, the month drew the faithful together, each day, to offer their love and devotion to the Mother of God, and learn about her.
As the month ends and as we round off our special devotion to Mary, may she obtain for us all that we have asked with faith, particularly for the church: for God’s continuous direction and protection of the Holy Father and others leaders of the church, and for divine intervention in the situation of our country Nigeria. Amen.

Day 15.
CHRIST IN A MANGER
” Wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger” (Luke 2:7)
1. Today being the Fifteen day of our October Devotion. We shall be reflecting on Christ in a manger. As we continue our meditation on the life of Mary. Mary was solely responsible for the birth of Christ. She lovingly placed Christ in a manger.
2. It was her work alone. No one could help her, not even St. Joseph with all his generosity or the angels who looked down from heaven, not even her cousins. Mary did these work alone.
3. No matter how many may be in attendance, a mother is supremely alone at the moment of her child’s birth and Mary was no exception.
4. Its bewildering to realize that the salvation of the whole world and of millions yet unborn , depended on a little maiden no more than fourteen years of age, going through the great adventure of motherhood.
5. Finally, it may interest you to note that God did not send any army to escort Christ into the world but only a little girl; Mary. “The weak things of the world has God chosen, that He may confound the strong ” (1Cor1:27)
PRAYER
Hail Holy Queen, my Dearest Mother, as you brought forth your firstborn Son; Jesus Christ. You laid him in a manger, with Holiness, faith and love. Help us with these qualities. No one could help you at that moment, may we be there always to help you to bring Christ into our world. through Christ Our Lord. Amen
( mention your petition)*
Say one our Father, one Hail Mary and one Glory be …
*Please, dear Mother, place these poor prayers and petitions of mine in thine immaculate Heart and offer them to Jesus Christ. Conscious of my own unworthiness, I trust in thine immaculate Heart, the fountain of infinite mercy*.Amen
RESOLUTION
I will pray 5 decades of the Rosary everyday.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
May Almighty God bless you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Day 14.
THE BIRTH OF CHRIST
” And she brought forth her firstborn son” (Luke 2:7)
1. Today being the Fourteen of our October Devotion. We shall be reflecting on the Birth of Christ. The climax of Mary’s life was the birth of Christ in the stable at Bethlehem. This indeed was the supreme moment in a life of supreme importance.
2. It was for this supreme moment that Mary had been chosen by God from all eternity, to bring the Son of God into the world in human form. God has had us all in mind throughout all eternity but none with more tender love than Mary.
3. Everything in Mary’s life centers around the birth of Christ. Her Immaculate Conception by which she was preserved from the corruption of original sin, was a preparation for this event, so that no shadow of sin would fall across the life of the Holy Son she would bear.
PRAYER
Hail Holy Queen, my Dearest Mother, as you brought forth your firstborn Son; Christ. You experienced great Joy, help me each day to experience Joy in doing the will of God. through Christ Our Lord. Amen

October 13, 1917
Story:
The last apparition of Our Lady in Fatima thus took place on October 13, 1917. An immense crowd of over 70,000 people had come. Many unbelievers, Freemasons and Socialists mingled with the crowd of pilgrims and curious spectators.
The weather was foul, it was raining and the ground of the Cova da Iria, trampled like never before, was muddy. The Rosary was recited before the Blessed Virgin appeared to the children. As usual, a change in the light, announcing the apparition, was seen by the witnesses. Above the holm-oak, the Immaculate Virgin began to dictate her desires, faithfully recounted by Lucia: “I wish to tell you that I want a chapel built here in my honor. I am the Lady of the Rosary. Continue to pray the rosary every day. The war is going to end, and the soldiers will soon return to their homes.”
The children then told her of several requests to be healed confided to them by the faithful. “Some will be healed, others no. They must amend their lives and ask forgiveness for their sins. Let them offend Our Lord no more for He is already much offended,” said Our Lady. This was the essence of the message of Fatima, with the remedy: devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Then Our Lady rose and shone the light issuing from her hands onto the sun, and all turned to it.
The Dance of the Sun
The rain stopped instantaneously, the clouds disappeared, and the sky became clear. Unexpectedly and inexplicably, everyone in the crowd was able to look directly at the sun without burning their eyes or feeling any discomfort whatsoever. At this great miracle that defied all the laws of nature, there was a great silence. But suddenly the sun began to tremble with jerky movements. Then it spun at a dizzying speed, casting flames of light of every color of the rainbow. It seemed to come towards the earth in a rapid rotating movement, zigzagging, and the crowd began to cry out. All fell to their knees, imploring Heaven. Some fainted. At last, it all stopped, and the sun resumed its normal and natural course. In a few moments’ time, the clothes soaked by the rain had completely dried.
Over 70,000 people, believers and non-believers, witnessed this prodigy. However, no astronomical observatory recorded it, which proves that it was preternatural. The journalists who were present saw and told the story. Even people several miles from Fatima saw it, which destroys the hypothesis of an optical illusion or a collective hallucination.
Avelino de Almeida published his testimony on October 15, 1917, in the newspaper O Século. Editor-in-chief of this liberal and anticlerical newspaper, he was honest enough to write down loyally exactly what he had seen:
Suddenly there arose an immense clamor, and those closest to the crowd heard them shout: ‘Miracle! Miracle! Wonder! Wonder!’… Before the amazed eyes of these people, the sun trembled, the sun made unusual and jerky movements that defied all the cosmic laws, ‘the sun danced’, in the typical expression of the peasants. Miracle, as the people cried out? Natural phenomenon, as the scholars say? For now, I do not care, I am only saying what I saw.
As for the three children, they were able to admire three grandiose visions during the few minutes this cosmic miracle lasted.
Next to sun appeared first the Holy Family: St. Joseph with Our Lady and the Child Jesus, who blessed the world, raising His hand in the form of a cross. Then the children saw Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows with Our Lord Jesus Christ, who again blessed the world. Lastly, Our Lady of Mount Carmel appeared alone.
Tomorrow is the 103rd anniversary of our Lady of Fatima. Let us pray the Rosary and participate in candlelight procession.

Day 12.
MARY’S MAGNIFICAT
” My soul doth magnify the Lord” (Luke 1:46)
1. Today being the Twelfth day of our October Devotion. We shall be reflecting on Mary’s Magnificat. The most important words Mary ever uttered were “Be it done unto me according to thy word,” for they put God’s plan of redemption into operation. Next to these words would be the inspired verses of the Magnificat which Mary sang when she visited her cousin Elizabeth at the Visitation.
2. Mary’s purpose in pronouncing this hymn of praise: unquestionably the greatest canticle of the entire Bible: was to thank God for the privilege of becoming the Mother of the Saviour. My soul doth magnify the Lord and my Spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.
3. To magnify means to praise and honour. It includes everything found in the word adoration. Therefore, its our fundamental obligation of adoring God. No creature is more grateful to God than Mary. That is why as Catholics and Christians we must recite the Magnificat everyday. We should make it a constant hymn of Thanksgiving to God for the gift of life and for all other graces and blessings. The Magnificat is a powerful hymn, we must recite it with complete attention and devotion.
PRAYER
Hail Holy Queen, my Dearest Mother, as you magnify the Lord, give me the grace to always magnify and glorify God by my life. May I rejoice in God my saviour in everything. Just as Christ was the source of your Joy, O Mary, may Christ be our Joy, through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Day 9.
MARY’S LIFE WITH THE ANNUNCIATION
” The angel Gabriel was sent from God” (Luke 1:26)
1. Today being the Ninth day of our October Devotion. We shall be reflecting on Mary’s Life with the story of the Annunciation. As we continue our meditation on the life of Mary, the story of the annunciation is a masterpiece of clarity and brevity.
2. The angel came to a Virgin at Nazareth, who was legitimately married to St. Joseph. When the beautiful message came to Mary, that she is to be the mother of the long awaited Messiah. Mary has only one question: How shall this be, since i know not a man? Luke 1:34. Put differently, how can she keep her vow of virginity and still be a mother?
3. Assured by the angel that she need not give up her vow , because she would conceive Miraculously by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary has no more questions and accepted the task. Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done unto me according to thy word. Luke 1:38.
4. At that moment the Incarnation takes place and the redemption of the world begins. From this beautiful story, Mary approached her task with Joy, gratitude, complete dedication and faith in the providence of God.
PRAYER
Hail Holy Queen, my Dearest Mother, give me the grace to accept my daily task with joy and brevity, may I never be disturbed with the challenges that will come. Let every new day, every new appointment, every new project be a new annunciation for me, through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Day 8.
MARY’S LOVE OF GOD
” Thou shall love the Lord thy God” (Matthew 22:37)
- Today being the Eighth day of our October Devotion. We shall be reflecting on Mary’s Love of God. As we continue our meditation on the life of Mary, Mary possessed all virtues.
- If humility was the foundation of all Mary’s virtues, love of God is the climax and the crown. Yet who can fathom the depths of her love for God? This may be one of those areas where, according to the warning of St. Peter Damian, we should not try to go beyond what the Gospel tell us. But if we follow only what they teach us about Mary’s love for God, we have a magnificent pattern for us to study and to imitate.
- I am 100% convinced that Mary loved God more than any other human being. Her love was undoubtedly greater than that of the angels and all the saints themselves. Mary had more sanctifying grace than any other created being: ” Full of grace” (Lk1:28)
- However since love increases in the proportion to the amount of sanctifying grace a person has, Mary’s love of God has to be the greatest of any creature. No one love God more than Mary, no one is closer to Christ than Mary.
- From the Gospel, Mary’s love for God was focused upon Christ, this we just imitate. we can also see that Mary proved her love of God in the manner Christ later describe. ” If you love me, keep my commandments” (Jn 14:15). Mary’s love of God was centered in Christ. Mary loved Christ and through him the Father and the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER
Hail Holy Queen, my Dearest Mother, let the love of God be the main characteristic of my life, just as it was of you. Give me the grace to always make frequent acts of love of God during thanksgiving after mass, visit to the Tabernacle and my daily meditation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
